"Inspired by the oceans of my travels, my most recent pieces incorporate a technique I devised to channel natural movement in the wax surface. By setting the pieces on fire I can use the movement of wind and motion. Like the waves created on the surface of the ocean, my encaustic pieces are full of changing color, depth, movement and texture.

My initial work was centered on found objects, things I unearthed in junk stores, photographs, memorabilia I rescued from second hand shops, collecting discarded plastics from the world’s beaches. My intent has always been an act of preservation.

I started using beeswax in my collages as an organic alternative to chemical resins and adhesives. I have created my own blend of encaustic mediums mixing unfiltered natural beeswax, damar resin and pigments, which are then applied to wood surfaces, using recycled materials whenever possible. As the depth of the wax on my pieces grew I discovered that I was creating my own style of encaustic painting. The wax is a natural preservative which adds to my desire to preserve."
